Lao Cai (Vietnam) (AFP) - While Kiab made 16, her brother promised to take her into a celebration in a tourist town in northern Vietnam. He sold her being a woman into a Chinese family.
The ethnic Hmong teen spent nearly per month in China until she was able to avoid her new partner, seek support from local police and return to Vietnam.

Vulnerable women in places near China -- not simply Vietnam but additionally North Korea, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar -- are being forced into unions in the property of the main one-child policy, experts say.
China is suffering from among the worst gender imbalances on earth as families prefer male children.

Vietnamese girls can be purchased even to brothels or for approximately $5,000 as brides, said Michael Brosowski, creator and CEO of Blue Dragon Kid's Base, that has rescued 71 trafficked women from China since 2007.

It's likely that lots of the girls wind up in brothels, but because of the stigma of being a sex-worker they will frequently report they were forced into marriage.

In northern Vietnam, trafficking has become so intense that areas claim they're living in fear.
"I fear much about this, as do all of the parents in the communities, but it has happened to a lot of females already," said a community folk from your Red Dao ethnic minority group, Phan Missouri May.
"I have one daughter. She's currently committed, but I am focused on my granddaughter. We often ask where she is going, and tell her not to discuss around the phone or trust anyone."

"There is nothing in the home for these ladies, not really enough food to consume," said manager Nguyen Tuong Long, talking about the dire poverty that is another key driver.The shelter in Lao Cai opened this season and it has helped scores of female patients.
Activists trying to combat trafficking in Vietnam said authorities and authorities take the situation " seriously ".
- 'Painful experience' -
May Na, from the Hmong ethnic group, was 13 when her uncle pushed her to marry a Chinese man and got her across the boundary.
"I couldn't accept it. They left me in the home and I climbed over the wall and ran away. I was wandering for greater than a day, dropped, sleeping inside the streets, crying," she said.
Eventually, Na wound up in a police station, but it took police a month to find out what had occurred and return her to Vietnam -- since she spoke Chinese nor Vietnamese -- only her native Hmong.
Currently 16, Na -- the eldest of five children -- is studying Vietnamese at the Lao Cai heart. Her dad has been arrested, she said, but she's chosen to not return to her own family.
The federal government says it has presented education courses in rural areas, close to the boundary, warning girls to not trust outsiders.
The center director, long, says he considers the number of cases is falling.
Anti-trafficking organizations in Vietnam claim it is difficult to warn girls of the hazards when it is generally a family member or friend undertaking the deception.
Instead, they say there ought to be harsher penalties for traffickers -- including, for example, prosecutions at regional level to improve awareness in villages of possible punishments to deter people from trying
