All of us know that people purchase pets, but we forget that it has been a lengthy practice for men to "purchase" brides. The rising trend among Malaysian and Singaporean males are Vietnamese women, these days.

Some obviously believe in the myth that Vietnamese women have a very mystical tribal lust which makes them room dynamos. All the guys who seek to buy Vietnamese wives expect their wives to behave like geishas.

Last month there is a media report that a 47-year old Malaysian man "delivered" his 22 year old Vietnamese wife for the matchmaking agency 17 days after their wedding.

The man, who purchased his Vietnamese girlfriend for RM13,800 needed a refund because he complained, among other activities, that he could not talk to her as she can speak Vietnamese. It was not documented, however didn't he understand this before purchasing her and only found out that she wasn't multilingual 17 days after their wedding. I read that some matchmaking agencies provide a "test period" where when the buyer isn't content with his wife, a replacement cant be arranged, minus a little "administrative fee".

Anyway, coming back to the original story, the matchmaking organization wasn't pleased about the antics of the person as they don't perform like a departmental store which has a money back guarantee policy. On hindsight, he needs to have acquired his wife with his bank card, then he'd manage to maintain a charge-back for "faulty goods".

It's not known if, in future, "hire purchase" phrases or "payment plans" might be established with matchmaking agencies to purchase brides, thus making them more affordable to the masses.

However, inspite of the value and social stigma attached with purchasing a Vietnamese partner, to some men, they think that inside the long run this can show to be more cost effective in comparison to marrying a nearby woman.

Caveat: if you prefer to purchase a wife, pay by creditcard or request an installment plan to protect yourself.
